September, 1944. After the D-Day landings, the Allies push across Europe liberating German-occupied territories. But the advance is slow, and costly. Field Marshal Montgomery conceives an audacious plan, Operation Market Garden, to establish a bridgehead over the Rhine and create an allied invasion route all the way into northern Germany. The plan requires massive scale air drops to capture and hold key bridges on the route, as well as a giant convoy of supplies pushing up from the south. The Allies are prepared for possible German counter-attacks or demolition of the bridges, and bring thousands of tonnes of engineering supplies with them.

The Ardennes CounteroffensiveMission Planner JSON
December, 1944. Despite being driven back across Belgium and France by the Allies, the Germans have struck a significant return blow. On the morning of 16th December, they achieve a total surprise attack, taking advantage of overcast weather to nullify Allied air superiority. Attacking through the Ardennes, a densely forested area of the front held by inexperienced and tired American soldiers, the Germans intend to split Allied forces in two and to push through to capture Antwerp.

Battle of the ScheldtMission Planner JSON
September 1944. The Allied advance across Western Europe has continued at pace, with long distances from the nearest Allied port, Cherbourg, straining supply lines to breaking point. Antwerp, the closest deep-water port to the front line, is captured by Belgian resistance fighters 90% intact, but rendered useless by German mines littering the Scheldt river and estuary.
Distracted by Operation Market Garden, the Allies make no advances from Antwerp in early September, giving the German forces in the Scheldt time to plan their defense. German positions on Walcheren island, on the north side of the estuary, become some of the most heavily reinforced of the war. German artillery stationed along the banks of the river are a menace to British "Wildfire" minesweepers, who are forced to work at night and are as yet unable to reopen the port of Antwerp.
Hitler orders the use of the V1 and V2 "vengeance weapons" to attack the port and city of Antwerp. While the V2 is supersonic and cannot be intercepted, the Allies defend against the V1 using rings of interlocking flak positions, as well as spotters and radar to pinpoint the flying bombs.
The First Canadian Army, with Canadian, Polish and British units attached, launch a series of operations to clear the German defences along the Scheldt and open up access to Antwerp. Little do they realize that Kampfgruppe Chill has been sent at all speed from the East and includes three battalions of elite paratroopers...

March, 1945. The Allied advance across Europe is in full swing, with Eisenhower's Rhineland Offensive seeking to occupy the entire west bank of the Rhine before its crossing. A major target is the city of Eindhoven, where the Germans have stationed troops and are hunkered down in defensive positions. To the south, Allied trains and trucks bolster the war effort, and Germany sends pilots to "hunt and destroy" these logistics targets.

Kalinin, Russia. You are a pilot fighting in an alternative history. In this timeline the Allies never broke Enigma. Instead of access to 'Ultra' -- decrypted German communications across all theatres -- the Allies were relatively blind, relying on more traditional intelligence methods. Although still in a strong position, the Allies did not deliver a crushing defeat to the Axis powers in mid-1944. In fact, Germany still occupies Russian territory and even seeks to expand its reach.

Spring, 1945. Europe lies in ruins. The Reich is in full retreat. Allied forces press their advantage, catching the Germans in a pincer movement, but resistance is fierce. While some of the German forces evacuate to a rally point, others fight the Allied advance.
The Allies must defend their tank convoys and other key objectives. Germany must defend their frontline airfields, as well as their evacuation convoys and troop rally point.

The Crimean OffensiveMission Planner JSON
Spring, 1944. After a long winter the Germans find themselves increasingly isolated in the Crimea, having been driven back by Soviet forces the previous Autumn. Keeping a foothold in the region is important because losing Crimea would allow Allied attacks on Romanian oilfields, weakening the Axis position. The Soviets, aided by the Allies, prepare to cross the Kerch Strait and attack German positions.
Both sides send warships and commence air strikes, while expecting reinforcements and supplies from friendly territory. Fighting is expected to be fierce and objectives range from lightly defended artillery and defensive positions to heavily defended industrial and munitions complexes.

Crossing the RhineMission Planner JSON
Remagen, March 1945. Allied forces are swarming across Europe, liberating territory from the Reich. After capturing the Seigfried Line the 9th Armored Division of the US Army unexpectedly captures the only remaining bridge across the Rhine. Ludendorff Bridge is wired with six thousand pounds of high explosive, but as the Germans try to demolish the bridge half the explosives fail to detonate, leaving the bridge intact.
The GIs quickly take advantage of the situation, securing and repairing the bridge and building tactical pontoon bridges to support their operation. "Cross the Rhine with dry feet, courtesy 9th Armored Div" is proudly painted on a sign across the bridge, with hundreds of tanks and thousands of troops making the crossing safely.
Hitler orders all possible measures be taken to destroy the bridge, including the use of artillery, heavy bombers, V2 rockets and even underwater frogmen equipped with explosives.

The Legend of Y-29Mission Planner JSON
New Years Day, 1945. Hoping to catch the Allies hungover or still drunk from the evening's celebrations, German forces launch the largest coordinated air strike of the war. Operation Bodenplatte is designed to grind the heel of the Luftwaffe into Allied airfields and achieve total control of the air.
Advanced Landing Ground "Y-29", home of the 352nd and 366th Fighter Groups, sits directly in the path of the German strike. Lt. Col John Meyer, suspecting a surprise attack on New Years Day, persuades Allied Command to let him field an early patrol before providing escort to bombers headed to Berlin.
As the Luftwaffe approach Y-29, a flight of P-47 Thunderbolts are circling overhead, with a dozen P-51 Mustangs on deck ready to take off...

September, 1944. The Allies are slowly driving German forces back across Europe and into the heartland of the Reich itself. In southern England, preparations are under way for the ambitious Operation Market Garden. The Luftwaffe's Me-262 jet fighter has entered service, delayed by Hitler's insitence on converting it to a bomber, but is nonetheless inflicting losses on Allied forces. The Allies attempt to counter the "262 Menace" by striking the jets operating base at Eindhoven. Meanwhile, the Luftwaffe attack Antwerp, a deep-water port held by the Allies which is being used to supply the front line...

March 5th, 1945. As winter starts to fade, the Allies hold all the momentum. After recent victories in Nuess, Mönchengladbach, and Trier, US forces are knocking on the door of Köln (Cologne). The USAAF has scheduled a series of daylight bombing raids on targets north of the city to slow reinforcements as well as further hamper the German war effort. Though the German forces weaken by the day, their resolve, and weapons, are still strong. The Wunderwaffe Me-262 jet fighters still patrol the skies to threaten bombers, while P-51s, Spitfires, and Tempests tangle with Fw 190s and Bf 109s...
Germany must defend itself from large formations of B-25 bombers while seeking to destroy enemy targets. The Allies must protect their bombers as they attack strategic targets inside German territory. Ai bombers feature on this map, starting at locations deep inside Allied territory and making their way to specially marked strategic German targets. Allied pilots should be alert for bomber flights reporting their progress and requesting cover. German pilots should pay attention to any activity detected by radar or ground spotters.

Operation EisenhammerMission Planner JSON
February, 1945. With the Allies advancing on the Western front and the Soviets on the East, Germany is in an increasingly precarious position. Operation Eisenhammer ("Iron Hammer") is an audacious German plan to cripple the Soviet defence industry by destroying hydroelectric and steam power generators, turbines, substations, and transmission lines. Destroying just two-thirds of the turbines will leave Soviet industry largely without power, crippling their war effort, and allowing Germany to focus on the Allied threat.
The Soviets are on high alert with their radar trained on the threat to the West. Both sides have identified high priority targets as well as broad combat zones where pilots are authorized to "hunt and destroy" enemy targets. Complex networks of interlocking flak protect the main targets on either side; pilots should be alert for AAA throughout their missions, not just close to specific targets.

Operation FranticMission Planner JSON
June, 1944. Operating from bases in southern Italy, American aircraft have begun shuttle bombing missions against Nazi Germany. In each 'shuttle', the Allies take off from Italian bases, attack targets in Germany, then land in Soviet Russia.
The Allies shuttle bombing focuses on important German infrastructure such as rail yards and synthetic oil production facilities. After one of their missions, a Heinkel He-111 shadows the Allies and identifies the Ukrainian bases where they have landed. The Luftwaffe assemble a large force and attack the bases where the shuttle bombers are stationed.

Operation ParavaneMission Planner JSON
German Destroyer Tirpitz is the heaviest warship ever built by a European navy. She has been threatening the safety of convoys between Great Britain and the Soviet Union and is a high priority target. The Allies have kept up a continued bombing campaign against the Tirpitz, causing the Germans to develop an artificial smoke-screen to protect the ship.
Allies must attack the Tirpitz and several other naval targets. If they are detected by radar en-route to the Tirpitz, the protective smoke-screen will be initiated, but requires five minutes to build up.
Axis players must defend their naval targets and can win the map by taking the fight to the Allies and destroying the bomber airfields being used to attack the Tirpitz.

Stalingrad ScrambleMission Planner JSON
Stalingrad, 1945. In an alternate history, the war still rages on the eastern front. German troops control the burnt-out city of Stalingrad, the site of several major battles over the course of the war, and have fortified their positions.
Hitler's technological wonder, the Me-262 jet fighter, has entered service and is wreaking havoc on Soviet and Allied bomber formations whose escort fighters simply cannot keep pace with the jet. Allied strategy is to hit the jets where they are most vulnerable -- on the ground or during takeoff or landing -- and by attacking fuel supplies.
On a cold February day, German supply trains are ferrying jet fuel from their heavily defended fuel depot to the nearby jet fighter base. The Soviets, seeking to end the 262 menace, plan high altitude bombing missions to destroy the fuel depot, trains and the Tinguta jet airfield.

Standoff in the LowlandsMission Planner JSON
October, 1944. The failure of Operation Market Garden has stalled the Allied offensive across Europe. The Allies hold most of Belgium, but the Netherlands to the north is German territory. Neither side has made overt offensive moves, but are instead bolstering their positions and taking up a defensive posture. To the west, German U-Boats harrass Allied shipping operations in the North Sea and Atlantic.
Each side has two large "reconnaissance zones" that must be scouted in order to reveal specific objectives. Recon planes are available from nearby airfields. To reveal an enemy target, pilots must fly a recon plane to the area then orbit nearby while the enemy position is photographed.
The Allies are attempting to reinforce their front line troops by air. A-20 supply planes can be flown from Eindhoven to Heesch or Grave. Once landed, supply pilots should taxi to the marked supply drop-off zone, shut down their engines, and end their mission. German pilots may choose to oppose the supply operation and should attempt to destroy A-20s near the fields. If the supply operation to both fields succeeds, or if both are shut down, that side gains a victory point.

The Rhineland CampaignMission Planner JSON
February 8th, 1945. Field Marshal Montgomery commands the 21st Army Group in a series of operations aimed at occupying the Rhineland and securing a passage over the Rhine river. The Allies must push into German territory, capturing strategic targets and destroying defences. But their advance will not be easy, as the Germans stubbornly defend German soil. Both sides face logistics challenges bringing aircraft to the fight, and every airframe is precious.
Front line airfields at Venlo and Aachen are barely held by German defensive forces. Allied pilots can capture Venlo and Aachen airfields by destroying the German aircraft, flak and defences stationed there. Once captured, these fields can be used as forward bases, making the task of attacking German territory easier. German pilots should vigorously defend these airfields to slow the Allied advance.
Logistics at this stage in the war are difficult for both sides. Supply trains bring new airframes to the German airfields of Düsseldorf, Bonn and Kelz. If Allied pilots destroy the trains, those airfields will be left with fewer aircraft for pilots. Pilots should always attempt to bring their bird home so it can be reused. Pilots may use an airfield repair station — marked by yellow signal smoke — to repair, refuel and rearm their aircraft.

Rush to BerlinMission Planner JSON
April, 1945. Allied Forces are steadily liberating the Netherlands, but their push into Germany is moving slower than the Field Marshal Montgomery would like. From the east, the Soviets are approaching Berlin and the Allies can't let them get there first. The 21st Army launches Operation Plunder to cross the Rhine and create a second, faster route to Berlin. After several days of fighting the Allies establish a bridgehead more than 50 kilometers wide and 30 kilometers deep. Now the rush to Berlin begins!
The combat situation is fluid. Both sides have clear territories to the east and west, but are vying for control of a central "no man's land." The map is dotted with small objectives, held by either the Allies or the Germans. If one side captures an objective, it will 'flip' to control of that coalition. Two central airfields are controlled by whichever side holds the nearby Coesfeld-Letter Support Troops and Münster City Defences. If one objective is held by each side, the two airfields are available for landing only. If both objectives are held by one side, the 'near' airfield becomes available for takeoff as well. Controlling the central objectives and airfields will give a significant advantage, allowing a quicker push into enemy territory as well as faster turnaround for repairs and rearming.
